Real Estate is all about connectingengaging and being able to convert clients. This has been true since the dawn of Real Estate, however like all businesses/cultures, the real estate industry has had to change and  adapt to the new channels of communication.

On Monday July 12th, in San Francisco, Inman News hosted an event called “Agent Reboot” – “A one-day, fast-paced program, that can help equip agents with the latest in business development, technology and marketing skills to help them be more successful.”

Through a fun and engaging program, we were led through a simile of “The Evolution of Dance, Communication and Your Real Estate Business” – like dance that has grown and changed and developed into numerous genres and themes – so too has the way REALTORS® communicate and engage with their clients and home buying or selling prospects.

While we would love to talk about all the tips and points we were re-introduced to and learned today…that would take forever – instead, here are the top 20 points we believe you should absolutely be utilizing in your own Real Estate business (in no particular order) today or at the very least in near future:

  • Focus on hyper-local real estate communication – even to the point of Neighborhoods – Streets and so forth…does not have to be only Real Estate focus. Make sure to focus on what the community is looking for
  • The Ipad will become a game changer for the Real Estate industry
  • The key to success lies in your ability to determine the best channel of communication to use to reach your audience
  • How are sellers choosing an agent? #4 reason – Knowledge/use  of technology – including social media
  • Remember – you can not be everything to everyone – try attracting the people you would most like to work with
  • Blogging – can be utilized to showcase your market knowledge
  • When blogging – think about writing about the typical questions/advice you answer/provide to clients on a daily basis
  • Social Media is about – “Make a friend now – do a deal later”
  • If your not comfortable with the technology – get comfortable or… hire a company or someone who can help you – power is knowledge
  • Social Media does not have to be your all – social media is just another tool in your marketing campaign
  • Your goal is to be everywhere – build a persona of knowledge
  • Think “Education Based Marketing”
  • Originally Facebook was thought of like a cocktail party – now it is viewed as a relationship tool!
  • Did you know – Facebook gets more traffic than Google
  • SEO – There are short tail keywords and long tail – did you know 80% of people search the long tail phrases
  • Remember you are running your own business – think of marketing as an investment
  • You should invest 9-15% of what you plan to make into marketing
  • Change is inevitable – it is what you make of the change that defines your success
  • Qualities of an agent – Strong mind-set, strong sales skills, strong work ethic, strong personal/business accountability, have a defined business plan, are able to execute their plan, have a high degree of versatility, high degree of prospecting skills, high level of intensity…
  • Real Estate is becoming more about Lifestyle Branding
