Upon NASA’s discovery of Kepler-452b, the internet is buzzing with Earth 2.0 and the potential for life on other planets. This newly discovered Earth-like planet has reinforced what us sci-fi nerds already knew. There is potential for life outside of Earth, and humans may well colonize the known universe.

Now, what does this mean for REALTOR®s? Well, get ready to go interplanetary! The galaxy is your oyster. Instead of writing about a community it might be a country you specialize in or an entire planet. Galaxy level brokerages will pop up and we will begin seeing social media and blog posts on “How to Sell the Dark Side of The Moon” or “Which Planet is the Best fit for Your Lifestyle?”

For those REALTOR®s who’s minds have been opened to the possibility of interspace travel and colonization of other worlds, a few teachings from the sci-fi community:

  1. Star Wars taught us: As much as a REALTOR® needs to develop trust between themselves and their buyer, the snail-like Hutts are not to be trusted. Do not under any circumstances deal with them unless you feel like getting pushed into a Sarlacc pit to be digested over the next 100 years.
  2. Star Trek taught us: Only the strong willed can deal with a Klingon. Be prepared for aggressive behavior, and never put them on a planet full of fuzzy, mass replicating Tribbles.
  3. Doctor Who taught us: Yes, expanding into new areas and communities can expand a REALTOR®s business but, don’t drink the water on Mars. Don’t even touch it. Not one drop.
  4. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy taught us: The competition is going to be vastly reduced for REALTOR®s. Space is big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is.

Overall, what we have really learned from science fiction is the variations of life are as limitless as our imagination. Our future depends on our relationship with new life forms outside of our current experience.

“Humanity will reach maturity and wisdom on the day that it begins to not just tolerate, but take special delight in ideas and differences in life forms.” – Gene Rodenberry

Do we need to start establishing new “Rules of Real Estate” for our interplanetary future? Also, if you have any other references I missed, which I am sure were many, comment on this post.
