We all need a little dose of reality every once in awhile. As humans, we tend to get a little bit carried away and build ourselves up a little too much. While having confidence is a good thing, you must be careful not to let your hubris grow so much that it affects your attitude. This doesn’t mean you should belittle yourself, but rather shift your mindset. Think about others and their circumstances, put yourself in their shoes, and do what you can to lend a hand.
If you have a bigger house, income, or car than that of your neighbour, give them a genuine smile- rather than sticking your nose in the air. Make a conscious decision to be a little more soft spoken and humble towards others. So, how do we humble ourselves?
Be sincere. Give sincere compliments or smiles, it must come from the heart not the mind.
Admit your wrongs and apologize first. If you make a mistake don’t try to hide it, or wait until your client points it out to you. There’s nothing wrong with messing up sometimes. Remember, we are all human…even real estate agents!
Help others who can’t. Volunteer for a nonprofit organization, or mentor a coworker. Pass your knowledge on as others did with you.
Try something new. Put yourself out of your comfort zone by taking up a new language, sport, or hobby and don’t be afraid to ask for help while learning. Believe me, learning from nothing is a humbling experience on its own!
What was your humbling experience? We would love to hear from you! Write your comments in the box below. Thanks for reading and sharing!
