The road to success is filled with detours, bumps, and the occasional disappointing roadblock. Despite the challenges you encounter along the way, perseverance will help you overcome them with ease.

Fear and Disappointment

Whatever happens to you today should not cast a shadow on your dreams and aspirations. Overcoming fear after experiencing a great disappointment can be a difficult thing to do. My recent inspiration came after reading an article by a Michigan real estate agent who talks about overcoming fear and disappointment in real estate and getting, “back in the saddle.”

In her case, she was experiencing a large deficit due to the commission splits between her and her team members. To top it all off, the slow market and high marketing costs were leaving her with less than nothing. After proposing a modification to the commission splits, her team members turned their backs and walked away. She was left with her assistant and an overwhelming number of leads. Now, she would could have let that fear and disappointment paralyze her and quit right there, or she could move forward. She made the brave decision to leave the broker and work more independently at a different location.

“I also learned that you must be willing to accept the results of any changes you make…fear and disappointment are a part of life. It is up to us in how we face it, deal with it, and move on.” – Missy Caulk

Disappointments help REALTORS® grow as professionals and become savvy individuals. Sure those disappointments leave their marks with us (it is afterall how experiences are shaped) but in the end it is up to us whether or not we let them cast a shadow on our futures. This message is universal, no matter the country, market, or REALTOR®.
